Free and wonderful experiences

Two years after leaving the boat, we took another look at Wetterwille’s offerings—we’d been very satisfied with them back in 2007. Thanks to that experience, we no longer need to take a boating course. We’re off to enjoy some wonderful, carefree adventures. We had planned a tour of the windmills in Friesland. The first windmill we visited was in the village of Scharsterbrug, where we took a walk through the picturesque village of Langweer to another windmill. In the afternoon, we sailed to the town of Lemmer. Here, on the edge of Lake Grutte Brekken—where I took a Sunday siesta—we prepared dinner on the grill.

On Monday, we set out for the village of Sloten, where we enjoyed some wonderful experiences around the windmill and took a leisurely stroll through the village. That same afternoon, we were in the village of Woudsend. On Tuesday, we visited the town of Stavoren, where we moored at the marina on the outskirts of town and explored Stavoren on foot, including the canal leading to the IJsselmeer. We spent the evening on the shore of Lake De Geau.

On Wednesday morning, we went to the town of Workum, where we visited the church, the Museum of Art, and the shops there, and in the afternoon we sailed to the town of Makkum. We arrived there in the afternoon and visited the local pub.

On Thursday morning, we were still in Makkum and went into town to visit the market; then, after lunch, we set off on the dreary journey back to Terherne. We visited the windmill in IJlst, sailed through the town of Sneek, and by evening we were moored in Terherne, where we spent the night. On Friday morning, we handed over the boat and had to set off on our return journey to Bohemia. It was another wonderful experience, and we’d love to come back.
