The new Woudaaproute lets the whole family enjoy the Frisian lake region. Sail past Terherne, Langweer, Woudsend, and Heeg, and see for yourself that children are welcome everywhere. The route is accessible to both motorboats and sailboats, and the many docking options make it easy to go ashore.

Dock in Terherne

In the Classic Ship Harbor, commercial and recreational vessels—most of which date from the first half of the last century—have permanent berths along the quay. There are also quaint vacation cottages, small shops, and the Schepenhal. Terherne is best known as the “Chameleon Village,” the world of Hielke and Sietse Klinkhamer from the famous “Chameleon” books, featuring the Chameleon Play Farm and Adventure Island.

An attractive stretch of the waterway

Langweer has also become even more appealing as a water sports destination. For example, there’s a new harbor office, new restroom facilities, and more activities for children at the beach. While lunch is being prepared in the new, covered picnic area, the children are having fun on the playground equipment.

Continue past Langweer across De Welle. With a clearance height of 1.60 meters, it is not suitable for all boats. That’s why there’s an alternative route via the Johan Friso Canal. With the completion of the Jeltesleat aqueduct—which replaced Fryslân’s busiest bridge—sailing has become much more peaceful. Enjoy the view and let yourself be carried along over the aqueduct.

The center of Woudsend has also become more accessible thanks to the construction of the bypass around the village. The old bridge is still there, but thanks to the construction of the Ie aqueduct, it needs to be opened and closed less frequently. The passing spots in the village center have been expanded and improved. Continuing on to Heeg is also no problem at all.

Finish in Sneek

Arrive in Sneek through the picturesque countryside. On the southwest side of the city, the Geau Aqueduct welcomes water sports enthusiasts. In addition to the bustling city, which offers more docking options, there’s also plenty to do on Starteiland. Be sure to check out the National Keelboat Training Center. This sports facility for competitive sailing training meets the requirements of NOC*NSF. From the rooftop terrace, you can enjoy watching the sailing races on the Snitser Mar.
