A Warm and Friendly Atmosphere in the Small Towns
We went sailing for the first time in 2006. The weather was fantastic for that time of year. But we never would have dared to dream that April 2007 would bring such gorgeous weather. Together with a couple we’re friends with, we enjoyed the scenery, the water, and the friendly atmosphere in the towns we visited.

A nice trip
First, I had a 2-hour boating lesson—it was very informative, and it came in handy later on, especially when you have to turn around in a tight spot. We didn’t set out until 6 p.m., so we spent our first night in Terherne. We happened to end up in the new harbor in Wetterwille, where I had a quick beer with Alexander...

Boating Vacation in Friesland
After a very successful boating weekend in 2007, we decided to go for a whole week this time. A route combining the natural beauty of the Wieden and the Weerribben with the characteristic (former) Zuiderzee harbor towns seemed perfect to us. And it was! We hiked, biked, and, of course, sailed through beautiful areas.

Enjoying the Sun
In the afternoon, we headed to Lake Jentje, where we enjoyed sitting on a dock in the sun. We had brought our own little motorboat, so we took the kids for a nice little cruise around the ponds. The next day, we did some boating in Joure, where there are also good showers. It’s another beautiful day with plenty of sunshine.

A very successful outing
We spent a weekend in Drachten. During our tour, we decided to wrap up Saturday evening with dinner at 't Far in Terherne. After a hearty meal, we planned to take a short walk. Normally, we walk from Wetterwille to 't Far, but this time it was the other way around.

Enjoy a drink on the deck
Travelogue of our first (but surely not our last) boating vacation: On Thursday morning, May 21, at 9:30 a.m., we had arranged to meet at Wetterwille Yacht Rental in Terherne. Of course, we were very curious about the boat we had rented, which we had only seen in photos and read about on the Wetterwille website.

Free and wonderful experiences
Two years after leaving the boat, we took another look at Wetterwille’s offerings—we had been very satisfied with them back in 2007. Thanks to that experience, we no longer need to take a boating course. We’re off to enjoy some wonderful, carefree adventures. We had planned a tour of the windmills in Friesland.

Some nice sunshine
On Monday, May 3, we headed to Terherne in the pouring rain; we were already thinking, “What have we gotten ourselves into?” but it turned out better than we expected. At Wetterwille, we loaded the boat with our gear and received instructions on how to use it. We had a bigger boat this time than last time, and we really liked it; Aartje had really gotten the hang of boating, too.

Had another nice sail
We chose the Mistral 950 again this year because it’s a great boat. Last winter, Alexander gave it a makeover, and it’s now a bit lower. It was a bit of a shame that the window had to be removed to reduce wind resistance, but now we were able to sail from Drachten through to Dokkum, and it’s absolutely beautiful passing under all those little bridges...

Fryslân Boppe
What an amazing vacation we had! We’ve rented boats from Wetterwille before, and this May vacation we had a wonderful time sailing on the Catfish. Our kids were bursting with excitement, curious to see what the boat would look like. They came back on deck even more excited after inspecting the boat inside and out.

Old Cows
From Dokkum to Franeker: let’s not bring up old issues… This morning, as planned, we took a quick walk around Dokkum first. We decided to have a hearty lunch so that we can easily continue our boat trip later if we want to. We’re actually planning to sail back a bit along the Dokkumer Ee first...

Eleven Cities Route
We arrived on Friday, May 16, 2014, to sail the Elfstedentocht on the Nord. When we lower the bimini, it’s about 2.40 meters high, so it’s perfectly suited for the Elfstedentocht. We left Terherne at 3:00 p.m., traveling via Sneek and IJlst to Sloten and back to Woudsend, where we spent the night at the marina.

Out and About with the Grandkids
For a couple (both 75), it was quite a leap to rent a boat in June 2018 with their grandchildren, who couldn’t even tie a flat knot yet. The boat, measuring 12.50 x 4 x 4 meters with a draft of 1.15 meters, was maintained to perfection; everything worked as it should. I really appreciated the friendly interaction with the marina owners.
